A survivor pool is a weekly elimination game: each week you make a single pick, a wrong pick knocks you out, and the last person still alive at the end wins. In the classic NFL version you pick one team to win each week and can’t use the same team twice, so surviving late in the season means having spent your safe picks wisely.

The tension is that safety runs out. Early on the obvious favorites are available, but once you’ve used them, later weeks force you onto shakier teams — and a single upset ends your run.
